Whenever I’m in DC I’m struck by the weird architectural contrasts. Once you get off the Mall, there are still a few historic structures, some with intricate detail. The Cape Peninsula has miles and miles of sandy beaches scattered among the coastal villages.Those beaches make for both lovely scenery and (especially on the False Bay side) good swimming. Ordinarily the ferry between Helsingør, Denmark, and Helsingborg, Sweden, would provide a wonderful view of Kronborg Castle.Not so much so today.It isn’t much clearer on the Swedish side either, but a little.Next post: Visiting Family in Sweden

Helsingør is noted for Kronborg Slot a greatly expanded 15th century castle that helped maintain Danish control of shipping and trade on the Baltic Sea and the great wealth that came from the collection of Sound Dues for 400 years. Kronborg, as Elsinore, is also where Shakespeare set Hamlet. Lane would really like to visit the castle, but our late arrival and the persistent rain seem determined

We are staying in Helsingør tonight.By the time we arrive, it is very late in the afternoon and, while it looks as if it could rain at any moment, it is not actually raining. Lane wants to go for a walk around town, but I’m tried and just want to sit in the room and play with photos. Actually, what I really want is a big glass full of ice with a little Pepsi in it. That’s kind of hard to find
