Photo Thursday: The Last Day of Summer at Leech Lake, Minnesota

All the signs have been pointing to the end of summer, but last Saturday was a perfect day to catch a bit of remaining summer sun at the beach.
By evening summer ended as a storm moved through, dropping the temperature by 30 degrees and whipping the lake into a frenzy of rushing waves.

This is my contribution to Travel Photo Thursday at Nancie's Budget Traveler's Sandbox. Head on over and see what she's posted this week and then follow the links to images from around the world.

  2. Fantastic shot! Love how the calmness of the water contrasts to the movement of the little girl. And as Noel pointed out, the colors do pop!

    1. Thanks. At first I was bummed that I didn't get the girl's legs, but I think I actually like it better this way, because I didn't want the sand and you still get the sense of motion.

  3. I like all the elements in your photo -- the colorful floating trampoline (which my kids want), the running girl, and the islands. Coming from hot Texas and currently living in tropical Malaysia, I'm afraid that I would consider even summer to be too cool to go to the lake in Minnesota, especially after it drops 30 degrees.

    1. Ha! I've lived here all my life and I too find it awfully cold for swimming - this year the ice went out late, so it is particularly cold. I'm also a tropical girl at heart!
