We just found out that our friend Sharon Patten died.
Sharon shared our interest in Native American art – particularly Inuit art from Artic Canada, and that is how we first met her. Years of running into each other at gallery openings became an occasional dinner party or pizza outing to talk about art and life. Her delight in the beauty of the world manifested itself in an art collection that included lovely and amazing pieces from North America, Europe, Africa, and China.
She loved northern Minnesota and the outdoors, but she also traveled to a few more distant places that she had hoped to return to before she died. One of those was Norway, the land of her ancestors. Another was Namibia, a country she first visited only a few years ago on a trip that held profound meaning for her.
I really thought that there would be time for her to make those return trips. I wish so much that there had been.
Good-bye, Sharon. Happy travels.
We’ll miss you.
